The Parliamentary Registration Department has announced that another batch of the new biometric voter’s cards for registered voters in Grand Bahama are available for collection as of Monday, April 27, 2026.
Parliamentary Commissioner Harrison Thompson revealed at a press conference at the Parliamentary Registration Department downtown headquarters on April 21, 2026, that the second lot of Biometric voter’s cards are on island for all of the constituencies — Central Grand Bahama, Marco City, Pineridge and East Grand Bahama.
While the new biometric voter’s card is not mandatory, registered voters will be able to use the current purple voter’s card in the upcoming 2026 General Election on May 12, 2026.
Back in March, registered voters already signed up to have their biometrics migrated to the new card system in Grand Bahama, particularly West Grand Bahama and St. James, Carmichael and Killarney in New Providence, comprised those in the initial batch and were the first to receive the new card.
Thompson led a team to Grand Bahama to distribute the 681 cards to the residents in West Grand Bahama.
The Parliamentary Commissioner noted that while the second batch includes all of the constituencies, it is not the complete list of biometric cards.
“We’re doing it in tranches. Ten thousand came in yesterday and so we’re going through those in Nassau now and hopefully we’ll be back in Grand Bahama soon to issue those cards,” he said.
Thompson noted that a record number of residents — more than 209,000 — are registered to vote in the 2026 General Election and he called on all Bahamians to be respectful.
“We want everyone to, as we get into this election season, always keep in mind that we are one Bahamas and we have set a standard around the world for a high quality, high standard at election time and we don’t want to start to denigrate that now,” he said.
With the voter registration being the highest ever, Parliamentary Commissioner Thompson noted that his department is working overtime to ensure that The Bahamas has a clean election.
“We expect a robust election campaign season, but we expect all of us to be respectful and to honour each other’s opinion,” he said.
Come Monday, between the hours of 10:00 am – 4:00pm, registered voters in Central Grand Bahama can collect the new biometric card at the Post Office; and East Grand Bahama can collect at the Lilla Gonzalves Room of the Pro-Cathedral at Christ the King.
Those in Marco City and Pineridge can collect at the Parliamentary Registration Department, Winn Building, Downtown and voters in West Grand Bahama can collect at the Parliamentary Registration Department at the Obadiah H. Wilchcombe Building between 10:00am to 3:00pm.
