The Prime Minister commented on the issue of abortion in the country in the light of the revelation that an 11 year old impregnated rape victim aborted the baby.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a graduation ceremony for meteorology cadets the Hon. Philip Davis said, “the laws are on the books.  Abortion is still a crime, rape is still a crime and carrying a very hefty, hefty penalties.”

Davis went further saying, “I don’t want to impose my views on a personal choice but sufficed to say I will support the personal choice of anyone in respect to those matters.”

Currently in The Bahamas abortion is only permitted in cases where the mothers live is at risk.
