Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis addressed the 2025 Public School Administrators Conclave on Tuesday. The two day event was hosted by the Ministry of Education and Technical and Vocational Training at the British Colonial Hotel.
Mr. Davis shared the story of his rise to success because of dedicators teachers. He said, “I can still remember the lessons — not just the ones about math or reading, but also the lessons about discipline, respect, and perseverance. Those lessons stayed with me and they helped carry my from a small settlement – Old Bight, Cat Island – all the way to the office I now hold. That is the power of education.”
The Prime Minister continued saying the real work of shaping that country’s future happens in the various schools. He told the administrators, “it happens in the decisions you make, the encouragement you give, the discipline you enforce and the example you set.”
During his remarks Mr. Davis also thanked school administrators for their efforts. He said, “for every child in The Bahamas today there is an administrator, teacher, principal, vice principal or a district officer whose decision, whose encouragement, whose leadership may alter the course of that child’s life. Your role is not always celebrated but it is critical. You are the ones who set the tone in our schools. You are the ones who support and guide our teachers. You are the ones who stand in the gap when parents are absent, when resources are limited, when communities are struggling. You are the ones who make sure the doors of opportunity remain open.”
The conclave was held under the theme ‘Transformational Leadership: Building Capacity, Raising Standards, Achieving Excellence.’
