Press Secretary, Clint Watson has been under fire for comments he made at a press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister. Mr. Watson said that women’s groups were silent on the issue of marital rape. He has since released an apology for his statement saying that he had been briefed by the Attorney General on this issue.

In response to the continuing backlash, Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis has also released a statement. In it he said that he had “the opportunity to meet with representatives from Women’s United, Women of Strength Association, Bahamas Urban Youth Development Center, Everyone Counts Organization, Women Investments Group, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Erin Brown Connects.” Davis said he discussed Mr. Watson’s comments with the group and that it was accepted that his comments were made in error.
