Minister of Foreign Affairs and Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Chairman the Hon. Fred Mitchell has revealed that a major announcement is expected to be made later this month when Prime Minister the Hon. Philip Davis returns to Grand Bahama.
Mitchell said, “he’s going to convene a civil society meeting which will include the Grand Bahama Port Authority and its licensees and all of the stakeholders in this city and in this island for a major announcement on what the government’s plans are for the city of Freeport going forward.”
The PLP Chairman said the Prime Minister’s planned discussions will require the input of licensees and Freeport residents on whether or not changes should be made now when the Hawksbill Creek Agreement is still in operation and what should happen post its expiration in 2054.
Mitchell said the Prime Minister should be visiting Grand Bahama within the third week of October.
