Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis is responding to criticism by members of the opposition on his travel expenses incurred during the West Grand Bahama and Bimini by-election campaign.
Davis spoke with reporters outside an event he attended at the Atlantis Resort recently. He said, “who are they to accuse me of such things. It is what it is. The accusations came about as a result of some misinterpretation of allocation of funds and I think it’ll be addressed during the course of the debate coming up. I don’t intend to add anymore to it.”
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to speak to his commitment to transforming The Bahamas. “When I came into power there was a financial crisis, a serious financial crisis. There was a health crisis. There was also an educational crisis and these, what I call, tri-crises that we were faced with, we had to deal with. The problem is that the FNM they are baffled by the fact that we’re able to do so much to help our people since coming to office and they don’t understand how it’s being done. How were we able, for example, to reduce VAT and still be able to survive despite the financial crisis. How were we able to raise the minimum wage for the poor people in this country without causing the gloom and doom that they predicted, businesses were gonna close, people were gonna lose jobs,” Davis said.
A statement was released by the Office of the Prime Minister on February 29th on this subject stating, “in his two and a half years in office, the Prime Minister has made dozens of visits to the Family Islands, underscoring his government’s commitment to expanding economic opportunities across our archipelago.”
