Capacity was reached at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Tuesday. There were no available beds for patients seen in the Accident and Emergency Department and in need of admission to hospital. Members of the media questioned the minister responsible on the issue outside of the House of Assembly.

Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville said, “fortunately our arrangement with Doctor’s Hospital is still very fluid and we found spaces there as well as we had to open another section of one of the wards but we’re working diligently to ensure that everyone who comes in who needs admission is taken care of and for us to move very swiftly for those who are in a virtual ward in our Accident and Emergency find bed spaces as soon as possible.”

The minister also explained that the current renovations underway at the Hospital is adding to the shortage of beds. The renovation project is are expected to be completed in fourteen to eighteen months.
