The Minister of National Security along with the Commissioner of Police headlined a press event on Monday to announce a round of senior promotions within the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

Commissioner Clayton Fernander told reporters, “I feel that they are the senior promotions at this time and are based on what I’m trying to achieve to ensure the safety of the Bahamian people and visitors who come to our shore. And what is going on out there at this time I feel good to know where we’re at and to be able to appoint these good gentlemen and ladies to those portfolios to take this policing to another level.”

The Hon. Wayne Munroe addressed those who were not promoted. “A great problem in this institution is that we have an embarrassment of riches. It would be a much simpler matter if we only had one or two people who were stellar performers.” The Minister also stated that the promotions of the Bahamas Department of Corrections Services is currently with the Ministry of Public Service and that those promotions are backdated to the year 2020.

Among the senior police officers promoted to the position of Assistant Commissioner of Police are Rodger Thompson, Warren Johnson, Roberto Goodman, Earl Thompson, Dwight Adderley, Chaswell Hanna, Damien Robinson, Anthony Rolle and Janet McKenzie. Kirkwood Andrews will now serve as Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Newly promoted Assistant Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles becomes the first woman to hold the post as head of the northern Bahamas. She told ZNS News, “we have women in all ranks except the office of Commissioner and one day a woman will take charge of that office. And so I believe its a topic for conversation.”
