The Ministry of Health and Wellness, in collaboration with the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/World Health Organization (WHO) — launched the National Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology Strategic Plan 2025–2030 at Baha Mar convention centre, September 19, 2025.
The Strategic Plan 2025–2030 outlines a unified national vision for strengthening rehabilitation and assistive technology (AT) services across the country in direct response to national assessments, which had identified gaps in access, equity, workforce capacity, and financing.
The strategic plan will expand equitable access to services that restore independence, dignity, and quality of life for Bahamians of all ages.
Launched by a press conference and as part of National Rehabilitation Week observed September15-19, it was held under the theme, ‘Everybody, Every Ability, Every Life – Empowering through Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology.’
Minister of Health and Wellness the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville said “We are releasing the plan in phases so that no one is left to fall between the cracks.” He said on that day, Friday, The Bahamas achieved another milestone thanks to assistance from the government, and non-governmental partners.
Dr. Eldonna Boisson, representative of PAHO/WHO Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands, congratulated the government and the Ministry of Health and Wellness on the launch of the plan.
The Strategic Plan positions The Bahamas within global health commitments, including the WHO Rehabilitation 2030 ‘Call for Action.’
