A heads of agreement signing ceremony was held at the Office of the Prime Minister for a new $25 million resort development on Big Sampson Cay in the Exumas.
Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis attended the event. He said, “we’ll see the revitalization of existing structures on island, the upgrade of the airstrip and the creation of state of the art marina. These enhancements will be executed exclusively by Bahamian contractors and architects demonstrating Mr. Coughlin’s commitment to investing in the people of this nation. As a result of the significant new development local companies will thus be patronized, tax revenue will be generated and increased competition in the luxury market will raise our tourism product to even greater heights.”
Also on hand was President and Founder of Sampson Cay Retreat Limited Robert Coughlin who explained plans for the environmentally friendly project. “So in doing these like building an industrial dock, we doing it on the back side of the island where there is deep water, we’re not gonna the area in front there. We’re gonna preserve that so people can snorkel off the beach, can enjoy the waters in front and to me the guest experience will be that the resort will look Bahamian.”
He went further explaining, “in our cottages we’re gonna put meters that show how much water and how much power people are using each day on the cottage. And we’ll give them an orientation to the sustainable features on the island so that the guest become part of that.”
The completion of the project will result in 15 permanent jobs and consist of a main house, beach cottages and staff housing.
