The Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort in New Providence has constructed a new taxi stand facility. A ribbon cutting event was recently held for the needed addition.
Sandals Managing Director, Chuck Roberts says that Sandals and taxi drivers have a good relationship. “We have an excellent relationship with all the taxi drivers. We have persons who’ve been here from since we opened three or four of them that service our guests. So its more than fair that they’re servicing our guests from their cab and them using their cabs as their house. So we choose to have them more in a relaxed atmosphere.”
Minister of Transport and Housing, the Hon. Jobeth Coleby-Davis was also at the ribbon cutting event. She said, “we want to encourage others to take this sort of initiative. It helps us to continue with that respect and support that we want for the taxi industry and for them to feel like they would have the support to carry on their business and be able to make the income that they desire to take care of family and having a proper system in place is something that we’ve been discussing for a while for all port of entries with various other entities that we work along with. And so I’m happy to see that the private sector is taking initiative because it encourage others to do the same.”
