Royal Bahamas Police Force School Resource Officer at CH Reeves Junior High School, Corporal 3941 Chad Brown has been named the 2023 School Resource Officer of the Year.
Brown, though surprised, said it was an honour that speaks about hard work and dedication. He also spoke about his work at the school. ”It all starts with the small things getting to school on time, paying attention to your school work, dress appropriately, manners and respect. And being that big brother figure or that father figure and giving them positive positive advice as it relates to all aspects of life because sometimes you have different children going through different circumstances. But once children genuinely know that you care about their welfare, they tend to reach out and they gravitate to you. So this award is basically for them.”
Officer In Charge of School Policing, Assistant Commissioner of Police Chaswell Hanna spoke highly of Brown. ”CH Reeves won a sporting competition last year and they were very appreciative of him encouraging and cheering them on. He is their biggest cheerleader. Police officers are in these schools not just to deal with safety issues but also diversion programs to assist these students in becoming productive citizens. He also has a good working relationship with the parents of these kids. If something is going off with these kids in the home they reach out to him for assistance.”
Principal of CH Reeves, Sterling McPhee also spoke highly of Brown. ”He said, “Corporal Brown actually knows about 80% of our students by their name and it makes a difference whenever he can address a student. And not only that, for some reasons he knows their parents as well. And so we feel that that relationship has really impacted the school in a positive way.”
Corporal Brown was presented with his award by the Minister of the Education and Technical and Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna Martin at Police Headquarters.
