THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9:50 AM UNTIL 11:40 AM, FRIDAY 15tH APRIL, 2022.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR GRAND BAHAMA AND A WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR THE ISLAND OF ABACO AND ADJACENT WATERS.

AT 9:45 AM, RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUE TO DEPICT CLUSTERS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SPREADING SLOWLY EASTWARDS ACROSS THE MENTIONED AREAS. THIS ACTIVITY IS ASSOCIATED WITH A LOW LEVEL MOISTURE INTERACTING WITH A MID TO UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVING ACROSS THE AREA.

SOME OF THESE SHOWERS WILL BE LOCALLY HEAVY AND THUNDERSTORMS STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES AND COULD CAUSE STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

BOATERS IN THE WARNING AREAS SHOULD SEEK SAFE HARBOUR AND RESIDENTS SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS AS CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTNING CONDUCTORS.
