An American woman, visiting The Bahamas, lost her life in a shark attack in waters near Sandals Royal Bahamian on New Providence. The 44 year old from Massachusetts was paddle boarding with her husband at the time.
Sergeant Desiree Ferguson of the Public Affairs & Communication Department of the Royal Bahamas Police Force briefed reporters on the scene. She said, “CPR was administered to the victim. However, she suffered serious injuries to the right side of her body including the right hip region and also her right upper limb.”
The Police Sergeant added, “we’re always concerned as a law enforcement department of any incident particularly where persons are injured. And so we want person to adhere to any safety protocols that may be in place when it comes to swimming.”
The victim was just married the day before the incident. A witness recounted seeing the couple heading out from the beach laughing and talking.
The last shark involved incident occurred near the island of Grand Bahama where a woman was reported missing in November while on a diving expedition.
