Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard gave his reaction to the revelations of the Auditor General’s report on the Bahamas Games and CARIFTA Games held in 2023. The report revealed that the events were over budget by approximately $7 million.
Pintard spoke to reporters on Thursday outside of the House Of Assembly where the late Don Saunders lied in state. He said, “our athletes, the need better facilities particularly for physiotherapy. They need better gyms for training and preparedness. We need additional facilities across the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and there are numerous private groups that are prepared to do public private partnerships to execute it. When you have excesses to accomplish those kind of things surrounding sports it is acceptable. When the excesses have to do with ceremonial things, again, its unacceptable but we’ll have a chance to comment more fully on that.”
