The Free National Movement (FNM) launched its 2026 manifesto on Sunday. One of its commitment is the establishment of a national lottery.
FNM Leader, Michael Pintard told supporters, “this lottery itself will focus on large scale big ball draws, five ball and six ball formats offering prizes in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and even millions. It will not compete with the small ball lotto games currently operating by current operators. ”
Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis responded to the FNM’s proposal while speaking with reporters on Monday. He said, “to talk about a national lottery seems to me a gimmick. He trying to grab headlines. It just speaks of desperation and its really not thought out.”
The FNM Leader cited countries like Dominican Republic, Curacao and Ghana that he says have shown that a regulated public lotter can coexist with private operators. “We will follow a similar model and we will do so responsibly, transparently and with the public interest always at the center of our considerations,” he said.
Mr. Davis responded saying, “for him to use the Dominican Republic as a model for his national lottery when the national lottery of the Dominican Republic was proven to be such a failure with corruption and fraud and the like. If that’s that model he’s gonna do one has to question why is he wanting to have a national lottery. Is it for the purpose of a slush fund for corruptors and fraudsters as the model that he cling on to or embraced has proven to be.”
As the campaign trail heats up Pintard is expected to speak again at a rally on Tuesday while the Prime Minister will headline the Progressive Liberal Party’s rally on Monday of next week.
