TROPICAL STORM NICOLE FORECAST TO MAKE LANDFALL IN ABACO AND GRAND BAHAMA AS HURRICANE TODAY

Tropical Storm Nicole strengthened as forecasted overnight and it is anticipated that it will make landfall in Grand Bahama and Abaco as a hurricane today.

Based on the latest forecast, the storm will make landfall in Abaco before 11 am then make landfall in Grand Bahama shortly afterwards.

By that time wind speeds are forecast at 75 mph with forward movement of 14 miles per hour.

Typical conditions associated with the Category 1 hurricane may produce sea surge of 5 feet and an estimated 5 inches of rain.

Residents in Abaco and Grand Bahama are strongly advised to conclude preparations to shelter in place or secure themselves in a NEMA shelter if necessary.

As some flooding is anticipated, we once again urge residents in low-lying areas to move to higher ground.

Regular updates will be provided through the National Emergency Management Agency to keep the public informed about the storm’s progress.

Please be safe.

We pray God’s blessings on The Bahamas.
