President of the Bahamian Contractors Association, Leonard Sands voiced his concern about the impact of US tariffs and its new million dollar port charge on Chinese made and or owned ships on the local construction industry on Tuesday.
Sands said, “we could be looking at a place we have not seen in the last five to seven years post Dorian, post the COVID-19 where we could start to see job cuts if this really pans out the way how President Trump is suggesting.”
The Contractors Association President said we can expect a 25% across the board increase on goods transported by ships made in China. Sands said, “its gonna make it much more difficult to build houses, improve buildings and generally make the cost of doing construction more expensive.”
