Officials of the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDCS), Ministry of National Security and Probation and Parole officials actively held weekly meetings during the month of September regarding the introduction of Probation and Parole to the country.
The meetings have been held at schools in different constituencies for equal outreach to the public.
Meeting #3 at Anatol Rodgers High School, September 23, 2026 yielded another successful evening of exchange of information and ideas. The distinguished panel addressed aspects of parole and probation and how it is intended to work. They also highlighted how it will work in tandem with the Prison Industries Programme, and the opportunities that will be available to residents of Her Majesty’s Prison as a result.
BDCS Commissioner Doan Cleare brought remarks and duly noted that opportunities are no longer limited to trade opportunities for the rehabilitated.
He said over 25 industries are now on board to give a significant boost to the newly implemented Parole and Probation programme soon to be launched.
They addressed the weaknesses and strengths of the prison system that have been repaired and built upon further.
It was also noted that interactive meetings were being held not only in the capital, but also in Family Islands to get a comprehensive view, crucial to the success of this initiative.
It was said that the rehabilitation of persons and their return to society affects everyone and that the support of the community is the pillar for complete reform.
The final meeting for the month of September is scheduled for Wednesday September 30th at Doris Johnson Senior High School at 6:00 p.m.
