Western Air flight 715 bound for Freeport, Grand Bahama from Nassau made an emergency landing on Saturday. Video of the flight’s passengers praying and celebrating the safe landing was circulated on social media.
President and Chief Executive Officer of Western Air, Sherrexia Rolle explained the ordeal to ZNS News. She said, “essentially it was a scheduled flight between Nassau and Grand Bahama and the captain was preparing for landing as usual when he noted a gear indication light came on. He then requested to ATC to re-enter the holding pattern as he completed his emergency checklist and once they completed the checklist the noticed that the indication light remained on. And so at that point just simply in an abundance of caution he decided to inform that passengers and to declare an emergency status. It’s important to note to the passengers and to the flying public that the crew must follow their standard operating procedures which they did here. And essentially once an emergency status is declared certain exercises must be done including requested brace position as what may be seen in the video.”
