Gerrard DeGregory served as the driver of the late Hon. Obie Wilchcombe before his passing on September 25th.  He sat down with ZNS News to share his experience with the late cabinet minister and Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini.

DeGregory began working with Wilchcombe after the death of his father.  He says that he is still in disbelief that his minister is gone.  “He told me Gerrard do you even understand why I chose you.  He said because I care for you and I understand where you’re going.  You’re going in the right direction become I’m going to push you in the right direction.  He filled that void of my father being missing in 2021, that’s why me and Mr. Wilchcombe was so close.”

The devoted chauffer says it was not a regular job for him. “It was like I was taking care of a person who I truly cared about.  He really was remarkable in my life.”  DeGregory recounted that Wilchcombe would tell him stories of Sir Lynden Pindling passing our magazines on planes and how he tested him of the contents. “He say Gerrard continue to read, reading is knowledge.”

DeGregory says that he feels empty at the loss of Wilchcombe and is taking it one day at a time.
