5 foreign nationals apprehended in Bimini

In an operation conducted on the island of Bimini on Tuesday, January 4, Immigration Officers arrested three (3) Jamaican and two (2) Georgian males. Migrants were found to have overstayed the period granted as a visitor in The Bahamas. A search of the Department’s database revealed that no extensions were requested. Subsequently, they were transported to the Carmichael Road Detention Centre, New Providence, where they await prosecution. All migrants are expected to appear in the Magistrate’s Court this week on the charge of
Overstaying.

COVID-19 testing was conducted by a local laboratory upon arrival to New Providence; all results were negative. The Department of Immigration is committed to carrying out its mandate, to combat illegal migration by establishing effective border control management
to ensure compliance with the Statute Laws of our country.
