Prime Minister and leader of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), the Hon. Philip Davis and former Prime Minister and former PLP leader, the Rt. Hon. Perry Christie were among those in attendance at the funeral for prominent Grand Bahama resident Artis Neely held over the weekend at Mary’s Anglican Church
Neely was a founding member of the first Progressive Liberal Party branch on Grand Bahama. Speaking during the service Christie said Artis Neely had an overriding belief and commitment that the glory day could be brought back.
Prime Minister Davis also spoke at the service. He said, “first we lost Obie and now Artis, two sons of Grand Bahama, two pillars of this party, two irreplaceable souls whose lives were woven into the very heart of who you are. “
Mr. Davis went on to say, “Artis just didn’t work for the PLP, he lived it every day quietly, faithfully without ever asking for applause. He was a man of substance, strategy and steel. A loyalist in the purest sense. One we all leaned on especially when the winds were high and the path unclear. In West End they called him Prince, in the PLP we call him a general but in truth he was a servant. A servant of the people, a servant of principal, a servant of a dream that we could build a better and fairer Bahamas for all.”
Also in attendance at the service were Cabinet members, PLP Party officials and supporters.
