Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper recently addressed the Eleuthera Business Outlook event where he challenged Bahamians to invest in tourism.

Cooper told those in attendance, “if you think of all of the resorts in Eleuthera, if you think of all the resorts in New Providence, in Exuma for that matter you will find that most of them are owned by foreigners. If we are so bullish and we are so optimistic and enthusiastic about the growth and the potential we’re seeing in tourism why aren’t we investing more in tourism? Now I will tell you that I’m very delighted to see many Bahamians all across these islands, including Eleuthera, investing in vacation rentals, listing their homes or apartments or their cottage or their B&B, participating in tourism and enjoying some of the wealth that tourism is bringing.”

The Minister also spoke to some of the tourism related projects in various stages of development on the island of Eleuthera. He said, “Utopia is $75 million and this is in the Governor’s Harbour area. Disney Cruise Lines has invested $400 million in Lighthouse Point Development and we anticipate, this quarter, that we are going to have an inaugural voyage of Disney Cruise Lines to South Eleuthera and I’m looking forward to this. This again, is an opportunity for Bahamians to participate and engage actively in the industry. We’re bringing the numbers. We want and need more experiences to get persons out of the hotels or off of the ships and spending money.”

The Eleuthera Business Outlook events were held on April 18th in Rock Sound and April 19th in Harbour Island, Eleuthera.
