In 2019 Hurricane Dorian made landfall on Grand Bahama Island causing unprecedented destruction and comprising the island’s freshwater supply. In the aftermath of that tragedy the Grand Bahama Emergency Water Relief Foundation, commonly referred to as the Rotary Water Plant, stepped in almost immediately to provide clean and safe drinking water to the thousands of residents impacted by the storm.
Since 2019, The Foundation, with the assistance of dedicated corporate sponsors and benefactors, has been able to continually meet its mandate to provide clean safe, and most importantly FREE drinking water for the island’s various communities. The Foundation recently received a significant donation from Bahamian Brewery & Beverage Company, the producers of locally made Sands Beer.
Bahamian Brewery, which was also severely impacted by Dorian, donated the proceeds from a special #BahamasStrong t-shirt campaign to assist the Rotary Water Plant. “We made this commitment and promised to support Rotary Water Projects and now we’re happy to make good on that promise,” noted BBB General Manager Gary Sands. “After ensuring all of our staff in the hurricane-affected islands were safe, our priority was getting the brewery up and running again. The brewery represents jobs. We knew it would be a long road to re-opening so we created the #BahamasStrong t-shirts to sell in the meantime. Even though there was no Sands Beer being produced we wanted to give people a way to show their faith in the brand. We also wanted to use that momentum to help Rotary who do so much for our communities year-round.”
