President of the Bahamas Electrical Workers Union (BEWU) is in possession of a strike certificate.  Members of the union, who are employed at Bahamas Power and Light, voted to strike against the company in early September.

Union President Kyle Wilson says the union will hold off on using the certificate.  He said, “I am somewhat satisfied the progress is on the way and so the union is somewhat relaxing our stance as far as the strike certificate.  We have it, its a tool that we have and we have to use with no expiration date but you know hopefully its something that we never have to use to disenfranchise ultimately the Bahamian people who are paying the cost for their light.  They want to see their light on.  Their not paying for their light to be off and they don’t want to be the middle man and the difference between management and the workers.”
