A man lost his life while in an altercation about a motorcycle at a residence in Blue Hill Heights on New Year’s Eve. Police have taken a 27 year old man into custody in connection with the incident.
Police Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings was on the scene. She told reporters that the altercation involved the deceased, the suspect and another man. ”Shortly thereafter gunshots rang out and the two males fled the area. Quick response by our officers who were out on saturation patrol throughout New Providence has resulted in one of the suspects being arrested and two weapons, one of which is a high powered weapon being recovered. We are on the heel of the new year and I want to encourage members of the public to make a new year’s resolution so that we can all together assist in the reduction of crime.”
Skippings also made an appeal to members on conflict resolution. ”I want to encourage family members, those who don’t know how to resolve conflicts, they’re children don’t know how to resolve conflicts. I want to ask you to make it your resolution to reach out to an agency so that we can assist in getting the skills you need to learn how to resolve conflicts. Conflicts are inevitable, they will occur, the thing is that you need to know exactly how to resolve those conflicts. And so as it relates to this particular incident we continue our investigations and we appeal to members of the public who may have any information that can assist us, once again, to come forward and provide us with the necessary information.”
This incident is the 110th homicide for 2023.
