Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis along with the Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin and Minister of Transport and Energy, the Hon. Jobeth Coleby-Davis were all in attendance at the launch event to for the new renewable energy programme at the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute on Monday.
Mr. Davis addressed those in attendance saying, “BTVI’s new and improved renewable energy programme training in the installation and maintenance of solar photovoltaic generation systems and other related services. Measures for supporting industries within a solar renewable energy industry as well as further support for staff and students including a pilot for persons with disabilities and a workshop for teachers and students to expose them to careers in renewable energy.”
In her remarks Minister Hanna Martin said, “there have been so many studies that talk about the skills gap in The Bahamas. We been hearing it for ten, fifteen years. Where we are saying, as we speak, is the determination that we as a people are going to do what is necessary to ensure that our people do not fall behind or fall between the cracks.”
The programme is made possible through a partnership between the Ministry of Finance, the InterAmerican Development Bank and the European Union.
