The Bahamas Chess Federation (BCF) proudly announces the successful premiere of the Inaugural National Primary School Chess Championship, held on November 16th, 2025, at Boost Academy. We also celebrate the remarkable achievements of the tournament’s top performers, led by Caerwyn Turnquest of King’s College, who secured the title of 2025 National Primary School Chess Champion with a perfect 5/5 score. Following close behind were Colton Spraggins of Lyford Cay International School, who claimed second place with 4/5, and Isaiah Richardson, a home-schooled student, who earned third place with 3.5/5.
Rounding out the top ten in 4th–10th place were Liam Hepburn, Grayson Kemp, Justus Moxey, Dedra Curtis, David Nikityuk, Beau Simmons, and Louis Murray, each delivering strong and commendable performances that set a high standard for future competitions. This inaugural event stands as a major milestone in the nation’s chess development, uniting some of the youngest and most promising chess talents from across The Bahamas.

The level of focus and tactical understanding shown by these young players impressed coaches, spectators, and tournament officials alike. Their enthusiasm and competitive spirit created an atmosphere that was both historic and electric, a defining moment for scholastic chess in the Bahamas.
After the tournament, Chief Arbiter, FA Angel Pride shared her satisfaction with the tournament. “We expected excitement, but these children exceeded every expectation. Their focus, sportsmanship, and fighting spirit show that The Bahamas has a bright future in competitive chess.”
BCF’s Commitment to Early Youth Development
The Bahamas Chess Federation reaffirms its commitment to expanding chess education and competitive opportunities for children at younger ages. The National Primary School Chess Championship will now be hosted annually, serving as a foundation for long-term player development and ensuring that more young Bahamians are introduced to the benefits of chess early in life.
BCF President Curtis Pride shared that this championship represents “a strategic step forward in building a stronger, smarter generation of Bahamian thinkers and competitors.”
Principal of Boost Academy and sponsor of the event Sharlene Hansen agreed: “Seeing children this young display such strategy and discipline is inspiring. Chess is shaping them into sharper thinkers, and we’re proud to support their growth.”
