Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis weighed in on calls for the removal of Neil Campbell as returning officer in the Golden Isles by-election.
At a press conference this week Campbell revealed his relationship with several of the people involved in the election including Mr. Davis, who is said is like a father to him. This came after the Free National Movement and Coalition Of Independents objected to how the ballots were to be transferred from the advance poll venue to a secure location on Monday. This led to chaos as the groups eventually blocked the entrance of the polling station.
Prime Minister Davis told reporters on Thursday guardrails are in place to ensure the integrity of elections. He said, “I know many persons in this country. Many persons calls me daddy, many, and that’s because of who I am as a person. It has nothing to do with them being influenced to do anything for me. They have a job to do and I’m satisfied that the job will be done in accordance with the law.
The Golden Isles by-election is set to be held on November 24th.
