Wife of the Prime Minister Mrs. Patricia Minnis is the new chair of the spouses of CARICOM leaders action network better known as SCLAN.

The non-governmental organization of the Caribbean community works closely with the first ladies and spouses of CARICOM heads to champion the CARIWAC initiative.

Mrs. Minnis says she’s looking forward to working closely with her colleagues to make a difference in the region.

“We have four pillows that we are looking at that is part of the CARIWAC ‘every caribbean woman, every Caribbean child’ platform; and those are teenage pregnancy to gender-based violence, cervical cancer and the transmission of Aids, mother to child.

“Those are the four pillows; but with the gender-based violence escalating due to the covid, we are going to focus on that here in the Bahamas and the other islands looking at how its affected women.

“We’re looking also at women in business, how we can assist them in training and moving forward because a lot of them are the breadwinner for their household.

“The task is great but we are up to it and so we are looking at how we can assist women mainly in empowering them during this time of covid-19” Mrs. Minnis said.
