The Office Of The Prime Minister released a statement on Thursday announcing the promotion of three Members of Parliament. The Minister of State in the Office Of The Prime Minister, the Hon. Myles Laroda has been appointed to the position of Minister of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting. Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Hon. Leon Lundy has been appointed as Minister of State in the Office Of The Prime Minister. Finally, the newly elected Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, the Hon. Kingsley Smith has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry For Grand Bahama.
Laroda replaces the late Hon. Obie Wilchcombe who died on September 25th. Laroda says he intends to continue the legacy of the late minister. “I share the same vision of the former minister. I share the ‘One Love’ vision also. I share the vision of the Prime Minister and his words to me were, you know Myles in this public life we have to be sympathetic, we have to be empathetic to people who are hurting. As an MP I see it on the ground because I go to constituents homes and do visit or they come to my office. I know what’s out there,” Laroda said.
The Minister also spoke to the needs of the people his ministry serves. ”Of the fallout from COVID pandemic and then the inflation that’s pursued and the closing down of the economy. There have been a lot of people negative affected by it. And so there is still a great need out there for individuals receiving different types of benefits.”
Laroda added, “things are getting better. I think even the harshest critic would admit that. There has been improvement in the lives of Bahamians. Those who are working whether it be private or public but there’s still individuals in The Bahamas who are experiencing tough economic times.”
