The Consumer Protection Commission is voicing concern about expired goods at stores in the country.
Consumer Protection Commission Executive Chairman, Sen. Hon. Randy Rolle recently visited the island of Grand Bahama where he addressed this issue. He said, “there are some establishments that when an item…the date has passed and they want to discount it so it’s three different categories in which we ask consumers to look out for. One is sell by date, best used by date and those determine the freshness of a particular product.”
Rolle also appealed to the public to pay attention to product labels. “We shop with our eyes. And so you would be in a food store and you would just pick up a loaf of bread, feel if it’s soft and say, you know what, you throw it in the trolley. We’re asking consumer to be more alert when doing these things.”
According to the Consumer Protection Chairman consumers are entitled to refunds in certain circumstances. He said, “some stores may have a no refund policy and that’s against the law based on the new Consumer Protection Act. If you give someone cash and again its a defective product then you are entitled for a refund.”
Consumers should check the date on all of food items before purchasing them.
