The final resting place for the late Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, the Hon. Obie Wilchcombe is being constructed in West End, Grand Bahama.
Rachad Adderley of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Men’s Branch was at the site to view the progress of construction. He said, “when I pulled up here I was almost next to tears to see what my brothers have done for our great fellow comrade Mr. Obadiah Wilchcombe.”
West Grand Bahama Chief Councillor George Smith was also at the site. According to Smith a plan was presented to the government and Wilchcombe’s family for the memorial site. “I think when you now have the opportunity to look at the b-rolls what ZNS is now playing and on social media, those of us who really didn’t see the in depth of what he was doing personally now come to appreciate him even more and all of the work that he was doing in the community that we didn’t even know about.”
The National Chairman of the Free National Movement, Dr. Duane Sands and former Deputy Prime Minister, Peter Turnquest also visited the site. Dr. Sands said, “we’re all Bahamian. And certainly I believe that Obie well loved across the political divide and beyond. And so this is a beautiful and fitting place for his final resting place.”
For his part, former Deputy Prime Minister Turnquest said, “I think that what the resident of West End is doing for him, in honouring him this way I think its entirely appropriate and reflective of the service that he’s tried to give them over the years.”
A service will be held for the late Minister at Christ The King Church, Freeport, Grand Bahama followed by interment in West End.
