The Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training addressed the controversial issue of LGBTQ issues being taught in schools while on a repairs assessment tour of schools on Sunday.
The Hon. Glenys Hanna Martin told members of the media, “we have to query how it is that something like that should incite to these types of extremes unverified, unsupported and untrue. I don’t know who the president is, I can’t get into their legal actions but the assertions that are made are untrue. We have a curriculum and the curriculum is focusing on literacy, numeracy, helping our young people to be articulate, to help them have the grounding in the subject matter, we have a new history text. These are things we celebrate. The distractions, the erroneous distractions are not helpful.”
The issue of a textbook containing LGBTQ education to be taught in schools has been the topic of discussion of late on television talk shows and on social media.
