Member of Parliament for Bain and Grants Town, the Hon. Wayde Watson addressed the issue of fire prevention and safety in the House Of Assembly on Wednesday. This came after a young child succumbed to injuries sustained in a recent house fire on Rupert Dean Lane. Three other children were also injured in the blaze.
Watson pledge to purchase 200 smoke detectors for distribution in his constituency. He said, “I realize that that is a need. Six fires in one small two mile by two mile constituency. It tells me that there is a need. So I’m going to spring into action.”
Watson spoke with reporters outside of Parliament about the loss of the young child. He said the victim was a young man at Albury Sayles Primary School. “He was full of life. He was a very, very calm spirited, demeanor and was a very, very nice young fella. The family is a very, very important and integral family in the Bains and Grants Town constituency. The grandmother is still alive and she’s mourning at this particular time. The mum, I had an opportunity to speak with her, you could see the grief on her face.”
The Member of Parliament intends to consult with the Minister of National Security on ways to protect his constituents from fires.
