First Distinguished Lecture Series Held, Celebrating 49th Independence Anniversary

The first in a series of Distinguished Lecture Series was held Tuesday, July 5, 2022 as part of The Bahamas 49 th Independence Celebrations under the theme “Proud to Be Bahamian”. The lecture was held at the Harry C. Moore Library at the University of The Bahamas under the theme: “The Road to Independence”. As part of The Bahamas 49th Independence Celebrations, under the theme ‘Proud to Be Bahamian’, the first in a series of Distinguished Lectures was held Tuesday, July 5, 2022. The lecture took place at the Harry C. Moore Library of the University of The Bahamas under the theme: “The Road to Independence”.

Distinguished Guest Lecturers were Evangelist Rex Major, OBE, MM, and Rev. Dr. Philip Rahming, OBE, CB, JP. Both spoke about their experiences growing up pre-independence and, thereafter, in an independent Bahamas as of Independence Day, July 10, 1973. Pastor Major has affected the lives of many people for almost 70 years in ministry at Grace Gospel Chapel.

He has been compared to American televangelist Billy Graham, and has preached the gospel throughout The Bahamas, the Caribbean, the US and Canada. Dr. Rahming wrote the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, as well as the National Song: God Bless Our Sunny Clime.

Permanent Secretary Jack Thompson thanked the lecturers for telling their stories; the audience for their support, and the university for facilitating the event.
