Free National Movement (FNM) National Chairman, Dr. Duane Sands dismissed a candidates list circulating online as fake on Thursday.
He told ZNS News there is not a shred of truth to the list. “It is fake news. So somebody is obviously having a lot of fun with the public and sadly the public eats this kind of stuff up. I can assure you that when we are ready to reveal the candidates that we believe are fit and proper persons to carry the franchise of the Free National Movement that we will announce it formally. It’s not gonna be on a piece of paper that’s circulating on the internet,” he said.
It has been reported that the FNM would reveal candidates to run in the 2026 elections by May 1st of this year. According to Dr. Sands they are still working on it. “It’s imminent. As you know in the process of rolling out candidates, vetting people, this is a voluntary process, right, vetting committees, candidates committees have been working tirelessly to get the process done. And very, very shortly we will name the candidates.”
The FNM Chairman went further stating, “we’re gonna get it right. When we do announce think people will find that we have young people, experienced people, women, business people, people representative of the Bahamian society including people from the orange economy.”
FNM Leader, the Hon. Michael Pintard has announced that former Prime Minister and Party Leader, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis will not be offered a nomination from the FNM for the next general election. Member of Parliament for Central Grand Bahama, the Hon. Iram Lewis announced his resignation from the FNM to join the Coalition of Independents in April.
There has been speculation that Pintard will change seat to run in Central Grand Bahama. When asked Sands said they know who will run in some of the seats in Grand Bahama and that Bahamians should stay tuned.
