Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Free National Movement (FNM) Michael Pintard released a video message via social media on Tuesday responding to the national address on energy delivered by Prime Minister the Hon. Philip Davis on Monday.
During his presentation, Mr. Davis highlighted measures underway to modernize the energy sector and called on the public to trust his reform plan. Pintard said, “the Prime Minister came before the nation, once again, and told us that the buck stops with him, but after five years as prime minister and more than ten years—in total close to fourteen years—where he has had some direct responsibility for BPL either as Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister, if the buck truly stops with him, so does the responsibility.”
Pintard deemed the reports of overtime abuse at BPL as a distraction. He said, “when you are out of ideas, you grab at anything to keep the attention off those things that matter most to the people: jobs, better wages, consistent energy, improvement in the cost of living. These are things that people want. The Prime Minister told us that the buck stops with him; if that statement is to mean anything, then accountability cannot stop with a speech. Accountability requires consequences. Accountability requires truthfulness. It requires leadership.”
