Press Statement
A notice from the Chairman of the Free National Movement appeared in my feed last evening, accusing the PLP of having a slush fund within the National Investment Fund. This comment is a bridge too far and goes beyond the bounds of fair comment.
Dr Duane Sands, the FNM Chairman, is a heart surgeon and should therefore have a better sense of judgement regarding what he should and should not say. Perhaps his lack of judgement is why he is no longer in the House of Assembly. His comment is out of bounds.
There is no evidence of malfeasance of any kind with regard to the National Investment Fund. The matters on which FNM spokespersons are now commenting do not bear, and cannot reasonably bear, the meanings they are seeking to attach to the Government’s conduct in relation to the National Investment Fund.
While an opposition party is entitled to ask questions, it is not entitled to make up its own facts.
The Minister of Finance has explained what transpired with regard to the public funds involved in this matter. The conduct of the Minister of Finance and the Government was and remains lawful, and the Government remains fully accountable to the public.
