The Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources has been allotted $35 million. Minister responsible, the Hon. Jomo Campbell outlined in his contribution to the 2025-2026 budget how some of that money will be used to combat poaching in the country.
Campbell told Parliamentarians that a covert operation called Red Dawn was conducted where poachers were tracked, arrested and have been placed before the court.
The Minister spoke about a pilot project which aligned local farmers with distributors and The Bahamas’ support for BBNJs which was recently agreed to. He said, “the agreement under the United Nations convention on the Law of the Sea on conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction, in short BBNJ.”
The Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources will also relaunch the Golden Yolk Program and agricultural programs in schools.
