Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini, the Hon. Kingsley Smith made his contribution to the 2025-2026 budget debate in the House Of Assembly on Wednesday.
Smith took the opportunity to highlight ongoing projects in his constituency and the Davis administration’s impact on the island of Grand Bahama. He said, “imagine them believing that Grand Bahama is FNM country, of course, not West Grand Bahama and Bimini but it is the PLP that is making Grand Bahama grand again.”
Speaking about the government complexes that have been opened in both sections of his constituency Smith said, “it took the now Prime Minister to complete and open the complex on the 13th November, 2023 and named it the Obadiah H. Wilchcombe Complex after the late former member of parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini. In 2021, on the 18th of November the now Prime Minister opened the government complex in Bimini and named it the George W. Weech complex.”
Smith mentioned the return of Junior Junkanoo to West Grand Bahama with the assistance of the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Mario Bowleg. He said, “this isn’t just a parade it’s the heartbeat of our community, a vibrant celebrations of our heritage and a power symbol of revival. It brings our people together, fosters local talent and injects much needed vibrancy into our social fabric.”
The West Grand Bahama and Bimini MP also foreshadowed the construction of the West Grand Bahama Police and Fire Station and the opening of the Holmes Rock Junior High School.
