The Junkanoo community united on Wednesday evening for a Junkanoo rush out in honour of the late Hon. Obie Wilchcombe. Hundreds of people participated in the event.
Founder of the Saxons Junkanoo group, Percy ‘Vola’ Francis spoke to ZNS News on the sidelines of the event. He said, “this is an honourable occasion for me to pay tribute to a brother and a friend, an ardent Saxon fan. He was in one of our parades in 2015 when we did the tribute to tourism, I think it was 50 years or something like that, and he was the captain of the ship. And so I never, never forgot that occasion that he was able to share with us. And so being a Saxon this is why I am here tonight just to pay tribute on behalf of all of us.”
