The Pi Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. held a Pinning Ceremony at the Rand Nature Centre at which over 45 young women from various schools throughout the island were inducted into the 20 Pearls Mentorship Programme under the theme, ‘United in Strength, Rooted in Excellence,’ October 10, 2025.
The programme aims to shape and empower young women, helping them find their voice, walk confidently and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Bringing brief remarks was the Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey who honoured the young women being recognised for their academic excellence, integrity, discipline and determination at the ceremony.
She acknowledged the 38-year legacy of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. through its Pi Upsilon Omega Chapter in nurturing teenage girls on Grand Bahama.
“Programs like this create a culture of achievement. Being recognised for academic excellence and leadership helps young Bahamian women see themselves as capable, worthy, and powerful, reinforcing the mindset that excellence is attainable and worth celebrating,” said Moxey.
Minister Moxey identified the young women as the next generation of trailblazers.
“You are the future engineers, educators, scientists, entrepreneurs, and policy makers who will shape the destiny of Grand Bahama and the Bahamas. We need your voice, your brilliance, and your courage,” she added.
She challenged the honourees to be fearless, lead with integrity and remain open to service, reminding them that being rooted in excellence involves using their gifts for the upliftment of others.
