The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party, the Hon. Fred Mitchell is responding to comments made by Leader of Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard on the government’s delay in implementing the Freedom Of Information Act.
Mitchell said, “we opposed this Freedom of Information Act idea. The FNM has this view they’ve past something called Fiscal Responsibility Act, the Procurement Act, Freedom Of Information Act, all of these things really has nothing to do with people’s ordinary lives. This is just a bunch of public relations, accounting procedures and confusing activity with action.”
The Foreign Affairs Minister further explained, “the issue right now is high prices. What are we gonna do about the high prices in the country, that’s an issue. The issue is how are we gonna stop these young men from killing one another everyday. I mean that’s an issue. Freedom of Information, I don’t think so, that’s basically my view about this. And its bureaucratic, expensive to execute and I’m not sure you get any results from it that people can actually see and feel. You’re talking about a philosophical difference here between us and them on so many issues.”
