Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis met with religious leaders in the country on Monday.
While delivering his remarks, Davis called on the local press to be sensitive of how they report crime. “I think they should see their role as trying to help the country. I’m not saying not to report but where you report it may make a difference.”
Davis added, “it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the safety of our people. It is the responsibility to ensure that we reduce the fear of crime in our society, that’s our responsibility. But we have to lead in that respect and we need to have the cooperation of our people to do so. We can’t do it alone.”
Also in attendance at the meeting was Commissioner of Police, Clayton Fernander. He told the clergy members, “we will win this with every hands on deck. We know exactly who they are and this a plan of action I will discuss further and we will disrupt what is going on.”
For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Fred Mitchell who was also at the event said the government is committed to giving the police everything they want and need to fight the battle.
