Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis was asked for a response to comments made by Member of Parliament for St. Anne’s, the Hon. Adrian White.
During an appearance on a radio talk show recently White said only sensible people vote for the Free National Movement. He also pointed out that Englerston is the only constituency that hadn’t voted for the Party.
Mr. Davis said, “well he said it and y’all should take what it meant. I mean, I’ll never say that persons who voted for the FNM are not sensible because I would think that ever Bahamian that goes to the voting poll would be deliberate in their decision or take into account what they believe that will advance them and vote like that. That’s a sensible choice that any voter will make, PLP or FNM.”
White released an statement apologizing for and clarifying his remark. The statement said, “allow me to be clear: the term ‘sensible seats’ was used in a broader political context to underscore the importance of all constituencies – particularly those that are often seen as strongholds for either major party. My point was that these areas, like all others across our Commonwealth, deserve serious attention and informed engagement from their representative.”
The Member of Parliament for St. Anne’s said, “if any Bahamian felt slighted or disrespected by what I said, I extend my sincerest apologies.”
