Flies swarmed around a pool of blood that marked the spot where the country’s latest murder victim, a man found with stab wounds to the chest, took his last breath Monday morning.

The body of the deceased man was discovered with his shirt open, just to the side of the street, outside the walls of Mt. Carmel Preparatory Academy.

Officer in charge of the Criminal Investigation Division, Shanta Knowles, says the man was found in the early morning hours.

“Police receive reports that a male was found in this community just off Pine Barren Road just off Prince Charles Drive unresponsive and later he was pronounced deceased.

“We are working with this crime scene this morning and canvassing the community behind us for any information that we can get to identify this man” she said.

A trail of blood marked by cones led to where the victim, police believe to be in his early to mid-50s, ultimately collapsed.

As crime scene investigators processed the scene, one used cotton swabs to collect blood samples.

Knowles says police hope to find someone who knows the dead man.

“We don’t want to say that he is a vagrant. We believe that he lived in this community and so that’s the reason for us having our officers on the ground so that we can possibly find relatives who can eventually make a positive identification.”

Police believe the incident could have occurred overnight and are confident it took place in the immediate vicinity, an area that Knowles says officers have canvassed.

“We suspect that the incident occurred right in this immediate area and we are working in this area.

“We have completed work in this area and evidence suggest that the incident may have occurred in this area” she said.
