The Shell Saxons Superstars have been declared the victors of the 2023 Boxing Day Junkanoo Parade. The groups theme was Legendary Ancient Rulers.
The scores were announced at a press conference by Anthen Mortimer of the Junkanoo Parade Management Team. ”In third position with a score of 87.92, Roots. In second position with a score of 92.14, The Valley Boys. And the overall winner for Division A for the Boxing Day 2023 with a score of 94.03, the Saxons.”
Mortimer also announced that the Music Makers were disqualified and that the winners of the 2022 Boxing Day and 2023 New Year’s Day Parades, One Family, placed fifth in this year’s parade after being penalized six points giving them and final score of 82.59. Placing fourth was the Genesis group which also received a two point penalty giving them a final score of 85.79.
Several groups in Division B were also disqualified or had points deducted from their overall score. Mortimer announced, ”in third position with a score of 70.26, The Immortals. In second position with a score of 75.08, Fancy Dancers. And the winner of the 2023 Boxing Day Parade, the overall winner with a score of 77.81, Colours.”
In addition to being the overall winner of the parade the Saxons Superstars also won best choreography, best music, best of the shoulder, best performance, best Shirley Street performance, best lead costume, best banner, best step down, best free dance and best overall costume.
