Minister of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting, the Hon Myles Laroda assured that persons in need of assistance in the wake of Tropical Storm Imelda can contact the Department of Social Services.
Minister Laroda, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Pinewood, was part of a delegation of government officials that toured flooded areas in New Providence on Tuesday. Pinewood Gardens has a long standing issue with flooding which was exacerbated over the weekend by heavy rainfall associated with the storm which passed west of New Providence.
Laroda told ZNS News that his ministry has been providing assistance to some Pinewood residents that applied for it. He said, “it is temporary. These were situations where people’s roofs collapsed, they just became unlivable and so we’ve provided assistance. If there are others out there who need that type of assistance we’ll do as best as we can to accommodate those residents.”
